Ever thought of becoming an IT professional, but couldn’t come up with the first step, or figure what steps to take to get you to where you wanna go?

Instead of having to take a trip to Mordor to find your ideal job, Microsoft have designed an IT Student Career Portal for you lucky kids!

In the portal, you can find info on career paths for:

Web Developers

Server Administration

Windows Developers

Consumer Support Technician

Database Administration

It gives you a run-down of any job you so desire, skills you will need, experience required, potential future positions, and internships and jobs in countries worldwide!

The portal also gives you links to apply for those jobs!

You can find the Student Career Path Portal at: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/start/start-career-student.aspx

Have fun with your new toy kids! =D

Hey kids!

Hope you’re all enjoying uni this sem. Heh heh… the irony… enjoying uni =P

Of course, if you are starting to get sick of staring blankly at books and listening to grumpy, monotone lecturers, and want to travel overseas for free and work for a year…

Then kids, look no further! Have we got the deal for you!

Ladies and gents, Microsoft has now extended their US intern and Full-Time job application deadline till the 15th April, 2010!

That means there’s still a little over two weeks to get that CV in, and grab a once in a lifetime opportunity to work overseas with one of the world’s leading IT companies. And have it nice and shiny on your CV. =D

To apply for US Intern or full time positions with MS:

Go to www.microsoft.com/college and submit your resume!

Also send your resume to recruiter Lisa Harris (lisabar@microsoft.com)! She will answer any questions you may have about Microsoft internship/full-time opportunities.

(For more tips about CVs and interviews, go to careeradvice.heygenius.com)

But remember, you only have until the 15th of April to do it. So hurry and think fast! (COD4 players will get the joke xD)

Albert headin out! =]

Microsoft has just announced that applications are open for a Summer (ours) 2010-2011 position. If you have an interest in gaining experience (and good money!) working on real world products for Microsoft, all whilst experiencing another country, then this is for you.

The application process works as follows:

Apply for the position

Send your resume to lisabar[at]microsoft.com by the 15th of February (More details in the attached document)

Phone Interview

If your resume is successful, Microsoft will contact you to organise a time for a phone interview

Face to Face Interview

If the phone interview is successful, you will be asked to come in to Microsoft AU for a face to face interview with recruiters.

Begin Work!

If you get the job, you will be flown by MS to the USA in December, when you start your internship.

Remember the cut off date for resumes is the 15th of February, so if you want to apply, don’t delay.

Some important notes about your resume:

Clearly state when you expect to graduate, and your Degree/Major/University

Specify your technical skills – Obviously this is a technical job, let them know what you know

Provide examples – outline some projects where you have used those skills, they can be from University or previous Jobs/Internships

Describe your role in those projects, and what you personally achieved

Provide active contact details – E-Mail + Address + Current Phone Number

For more information, download and read through the fact sheet below. It outlines the two different roles available, and provides further details on what to expect.

Good Luck!

Microsoft is again offering internships to Australian University students for the summer break. These are fully paid internships at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, Washington. So yes this is an overseas internship, however all flights and accommodation are covered by Microsoft, and previous interns report that it quite often pays more than internships locally.

There are two available intern positions:

Software Design Engineer (SDE) Intern

Work at the Core of Every Product We Build
This internship is where the fun begins for code gurus like you. As a hands-on Software Design Engineer intern, you’ll learn how to make decisions about design and feature implementation, using your mastery of technical tools to help make a product vision a reality. If you would like to write code and design efficient data structures and algorithms to develop next-generation applications or operating systems, listen up. This internship shows you how SDEs bring products to life by working with Program Managers to ensure strong design and Software Design Engineers in Test to ensure quality through testing. Ultimately for the SDE, it’s your code that turns concepts into new technologies and services.

Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET) Intern

Discover Life on the Last Line of Defense
As an intern Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET), you’ll own it, break it, fix it, and own it again. You’ll ensure a product’s quality by making sure it performs as users expect it to. Part of the fun is how creative you can be devising ways to manipulate, crush, and sabotage software into submission—while creating innovative testing technologies along the way. Ultimately, as an SDET intern it’s your input that can help make the difference between joy and frustration for the customers. Since you’re keen on how things work, and making them work better, you’ll work hand in hand with the Program Managers and Software Design Engineers to design, develop, and maintain automation systems for use in development and testing cycles. Using the tools you create, you’ll help pour over source code for trouble spots, debugging and isolating problems, and executing creative tests to find new bugs while regression testing recent fixes.

Both positions ask for a fluency in C/C++/C# and a passion for writing quality code using Computer Science fundamentals. You should be able to write and speak English at a functional level, and be able to relocate to Microsoft HQ in Redmond, Washington U.S.A for a period of 12 weeks. (3 months)
